Shareef Malnik, the owner of the Forge restaurant in Miami Beach, took out a $450,000 mortgage from City National Bank of Florida on his South Beach home.

Malnik recently made the celebrity pages by speaking out to defend the character of director Brett Ratner, his boyhood friend. Ratner withdrew from producing the 2012 Academy Awards broadcast after making some controversial comments.

Malnik is known to have many celebrity friends who frequent the Forge. Media outlets have reported that he’s in a relationship with "Burn Notice" star Gabrielle Anwar.

He must be doing pretty well in his business life, as well, to get a hefty mortgage in this economy. Malnik bought the 5,760-square-foot home, at 222 Ocean Drive, for $1 million in 1995. The Miami-Dade County property appraiser valued it at $2 million in 2011.

The $450,000 mortgage from City National Bank is a revolving line of credit.

Malnik took out a $2.5 million mortgage on his house in 2004 with BankUnited FSB. Court records don’t indicate that this loan was fully repaid.

The Forge, at 432 W. 41st St., last modified its mortgage at $9 million with Regions Bank in 2006.
