ClubLink Corp., Canada’s largest golf club operator, has paid $7.2 million for the 54-hole Palm-Aire Country Club in Pompano Beach.

The acquisition gives ClubLink a total of 11 18-hole equivalent championship courses in Florida with a combined membership of more than 4,500 members.

Palm-Aire currently has three active championship courses. The new owner’s plan is to invest in property upgrades once the current season is over, which means improvements will begin next summer, Edge Caravaggio, ClubLink VP of operations, told the Business Journal. Some of the courses might become private.

Steven Ekovich, VP of investments in Tampa for Marcus & Millichap , represented the buyer, as well as the seller, Palm-Aire Associates L.P. Ekovich has been working with ClubLink for some time.

ClubLink is Canada’s largest owner and operator of golf clubs with 53.5 18-hole equivalent championship and six 18-hole equivalent academy courses in 44 locations, primarily in Ontario, Quebec and Florida.

ClubLink is also engaged in rail, tourism and port operations based in Skagway, Alaska, which operates under the trade name White Pass & Yukon Route. The railway stretches about 110 miles from Skagway through British Columbia to Whitehorse, Yukon. In addition, ClubLink operates three docks, primarily for cruise ships.

ClubLink made its first foray into Florida in September 2010, when it acquired five 18-hole equivalent championship courses and two 18-hole equivalent academy courses in Sun City Center, south of Tampa.

It moved into Broward County with the acquisition of the 18-hole Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs in October 2010, followed by the 36-hole Woodlands Country Club in Tamarac in April 2011.
